‘Brighten Up’ – CAFOD
We have been busy at St Pius X R.C. Primary school in Park End Middlesbrough this Harvest CAFOD day.
Since our liturgy we have been praying and thinking of ways to brighten up our world. We decided that we could collect food to donate for our local food bank. Our Year 6 class delivered this at the weekly mass at St Alphonsus Church.
School council decided a that put aside our usual blue and gold uniform in favour of wearing the bright colours. We raised £144.90 for CAFOD. We looked different on the outside and by the end of the day were feeling different on the inside. Amid the excitement of the day I found myself reflecting on the words of St Paul,
“So if anyone is in Christ, he is in a new world: the old things have come to an end; they have truly become new.” The generosity of staff, children and parents remind us that we are one family in Christ. We know our small actions along with our friends at CAFOD are making a big difference in our world.
The year 3’s, along with Fr Pat, Miss Haycock and Miss Warren, visited Middlesbrough Cathedral to visit the Statue of Our lady of Fatima and Relics of Saint Jacinta and Francisco. The children learned all about how, around 100 years ago, Our Lady appeared to three shepherd children in a town in Portugal called Fátima. To celebrate 100 years since these apparitions, a statue of Our Lady of Fatimá and relics of two of the shepherd children, Jacinta and Francisco, have been touring England and Wales.
